AMSOIL FAQ: Find The Right Path Before You Buy
Use this FAQ to choose the right AMSOIL shopping path through ProEdge Lubricants. If the product depends on your vehicle, equipment, engine, transmission, drivetrain or year/make/model, start with the AMSOIL lookup guide instead of guessing.

View account answersWhat should I do first?
Start with Find Your Fit when you are buying motor oil, oil filters, transmission fluid, gear oil, coolant or another fitment-dependent product. The guide is the most direct way to match AMSOIL recommendations to the exact vehicle or equipment.
Should I use the lookup guide or browse products?
Use the lookup guide when the correct product depends on the exact vehicle, equipment, engine, transmission, drivetrain, year, make or model. Browse AMSOIL Products when you already know the product type, such as motor oil, filters, transmission fluid, gear oil, fuel additives, coolant, grease, hydraulic oil, cleaners or oil analysis.
What should I verify before placing an order?
Confirm the vehicle or equipment, year/make/model, engine or system, required viscosity, required specification, capacity, filter fitment and intended service interval. If any detail is uncertain, use the lookup guide before ordering.
Fitment And Product Selection
Use exact fitment, specifications and product-page details before choosing products that depend on the vehicle or equipment.
How do I pick the right viscosity?
Use the viscosity and specification required for your vehicle or equipment. The practical path is to check your owner's manual, then confirm the AMSOIL recommendation in the AMSOIL Product Guides.
Can I use the same oil in every vehicle or piece of equipment?
No. Engines, transmissions, differentials, wet clutches, hydraulic systems and gearboxes can require different viscosities, specifications and fluid types. Use the lookup guide or the product page for each application.
What if the lookup guide does not show my exact vehicle or equipment?
Do not guess from a similar model. Use the closest official AMSOIL product page, data sheet or guide result only when it clearly matches your application. If exact fitment cannot be confirmed, stay with the product path AMSOIL verifies for that equipment.
How do I verify product specs?
Check the individual AMSOIL product page and data sheet before buying. Product approvals, recommendations, service-life guidance and specifications vary by product, viscosity and application, so the exact product page matters more than a broad category label.
Motor Oil, Filters And Service Intervals
Use the product page, data sheet, lookup guide and owner's manual together when service-life or warranty expectations matter.
Why choose synthetic lubricants?
AMSOIL explains that synthetic lubricants are engineered for advantages such as wear protection, engine cleanliness and fuel efficiency. The specific benefits depend on the product and application. For a plain-language overview, see Why Synthetic Oil?
How do AMSOIL OE, Extended-Life and Signature Series gasoline motor oils differ?
AMSOIL OE Synthetic Motor Oil is recommended for vehicle manufacturer-recommended oil change intervals. AMSOIL Extended-Life Synthetic Motor Oil is recommended for extended drain intervals up to 20,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first. AMSOIL Signature Series Synthetic Motor Oil is recommended for extended drain intervals up to 25,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first.
Always confirm the exact oil, viscosity and service-life wording on the AMSOIL product page and in the lookup guide before buying. Start with Gasoline Motor Oil, OE Gasoline Motor Oil, Extended-Life Gasoline Motor Oil or Signature Series Gasoline Motor Oil.
How often should I change AMSOIL motor oil?
Follow the AMSOIL product page, product data sheet, lookup guide result and your owner's manual. Not every AMSOIL oil has the same service-life recommendation, and severe service can shorten the interval.
Can I extend oil change intervals?
Only extend oil change intervals when the exact AMSOIL product page, product data sheet and lookup guide support the interval for your application. Severe service, commercial or fleet use, towing, hauling, plowing, frequent dusty conditions, excessive idling and frequent short trips can change the right interval. AMSOIL also does not support extended drain intervals where oils have been mixed.
Can AMSOIL motor oil be mixed with another oil?
AMSOIL says its synthetic motor oils are compatible with other conventional and synthetic motor oils. AMSOIL also says mixing other oils with AMSOIL motor oil shortens oil life expectancy, reduces performance benefits and does not support extended drain intervals. For the cleanest path, use one product and follow the AMSOIL directions for that product. See AMSOIL Frequently Asked Questions.
Do I need a new oil filter with every oil change?
Use a filter that matches the vehicle and the service interval you plan to run. The lookup guide can show filter options when available. Do not extend any filter beyond its stated service life.
Warranty And Records
Use the correct product, follow the directions and keep the records that support your maintenance history.
Will using AMSOIL void my factory warranty?
AMSOIL publishes warranty and Warranty Secure information on its guarantee page. Use the AMSOIL product that matches the vehicle or equipment requirements, follow product directions and keep service records. Review AMSOIL Guarantee for current warranty wording.
Can I use AMSOIL in equipment still under manufacturer warranty?
Use the lubricant type, viscosity and specification required for the equipment. The lookup guide and product page should support the choice before you buy. Keep receipts, mileage or hour records, product labels and service notes with your maintenance records.
What maintenance records should I keep?
Keep enough records to show what product was used, when service was completed and which vehicle or equipment was serviced. Receipts, mileage or hour readings, dates, product names, filter part numbers and service notes are useful records to keep with your maintenance file.
